I'm not a student at Augustana College or Sioux Falls Seminary, may I use the library?

Patrons with other Sioux Falls library cards (Siouxland Libraries, University of Sioux Falls, Southeastern Technical Institute, Wegner Health Sciences Library, & Avera McKennan Hospital Library) have borrowing privileges at Mikkelsen Library. Augustana College alumni and Library Associates may also request library cards.

How do I check out a book?

Your I.D. card serves as your library card. Library materials may be checked out at the circulation desk (main level) or in media services (lower level).

Is there a limit on the number of items checked out to my library card?

Students may have up to 5 videos and 50 books on their library card at one time. Faculty may have up to 15 videos and 100 books on their library card at one time.

What is the loan period for circulating items?

Books are loaned to Augustana College & Sioux Falls Seminary students for 4 weeks, with two renewals possible. Media items (DVDs, videos, etc) are loaned for one week. Music CDs are loaned for 4 weeks. Augustana and Sioux Falls Seminary faculty have semester-long loans of books. Media items are loaned for 3 weeks and CDs for 4 weeks.

How can I renew a book?

You may call 605.274.4921 during regular library hours. Items may also be renewed online via the library catalog. Enter your library barcode number, password, and select Augustana College as your library.

How do I find a book in the library?

To determine if the library owns a specific book, video, or journal, search the library catalog. Once an item of interest is identified, click on the title for the call number and availability. Use the library's maps to find the location for specific collections and call numbers.

The library's hours during the academic year (Sept. - May) are

How can I contact a reference librarian for research assistance?

What are the hours for reference service?

Generally, reference librarians are available Mon. - Thur. 9:00am - 5:00pm & 6:00pm - 10:00pm, Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm, and Sunday 2:00pm - 9:00pm.

Where is the library located?

Study Rooms & Room Reservations

Does the library have individual/group study rooms?

Thirteen rooms (2 on the lower level & 11 on the upper level) are available in the library for private or group study. Each room includes a 42" LCD TV with the capability of connecting to a laptop. Augustana or Sioux Falls Seminary students and staff may check out keys or reserve the group study rooms. Check out period is up to 3 hours. The Library staff is not responsible for personal items left unattended in the study rooms. For more information, check out the study room page.

Where can I view VHS/DVD films in the library?

DVD/VHS combo units are available on the lower level of the library in the two group study rooms and in the Norwegian Room. There is also a small TV/VHS combo unit set up in the carrel along the north wall next to the CD collection. DVDs can be viewed in any group study room by connecting a laptop to the TV and using the on-board DVD. Please contact Media Services for assistance.

How can I access library resources from off-campus?

EZProxy allows current Augustana College & Sioux Falls Seminary faculty, staff, and students to access library resources from off-campus. The login is the Novell login. For more information, please contact the library (605.274.4921 or augielibrarians@gmail.com).

How do I access the WiFi in the library?

The library's SSID is augielibrary. There is no WEP key or code needed to use these, simply connect to AugieWiFi or augielibrary.

You do have to open a Web browser and log in using your Augustana network login (your netware login/password and select faculty or student rather in the pull-down list). You are required to run CCA (Cisco Clean Access) to make sure your systems are worm and virus free.

Where can I send a fax in the library?

Library staff at the main level circulation desk can fax items for you.

Where can I scan an image?

The library has a scanner on the main level and a scanner on the lower level. Please seek assistance from library staff.

Where can I print in color?

Students can seek assistance with color printing at the main circulation desk and Media Services desk on the lower level. Students should have the file on a flash drive or as an attachment in their e-mail. The fee is $0.25 per side.

Where can I photocopy items in the library?

There is a photocopier on the main level and lower level of the library.

Does it cost to copy or print in the library?

Printing is free for Augustana and Sioux Falls Seminary students, faculty and staff. Community members are charged $0.05/page for copying and printing.

How do I request an item that the library does not own?

You may submit an Interlibrary loan requests via library databases, by dropping off a request in writing that includes your contact information, or by phoning the library. For more information, visit the interlibrary loan page.
