Take your first steps in VR and get to know your controllers in this short experience that showcases the power of Oculus.
The VR glasses are in a pilot project year. We will update this page as our policies are adjusted during the pilot year.
In order to check out a headset for use, library users must complete a VR Headset Orientation and sign a waiver.
VR Headset check-outs are prioritized for classroom use first, individual (with orientation and waiver) use second.
VR headsets at the library are preloaded with three apps and managed by a Mobile Device Management system: Bodyswaps, EngageVR, and FirstSteps. No additional apps can be added to the device.

This section provides an overview of how to set up, use, and maintain the VR headset for a seamless experience. It covers charging and preparing the device, creating a suitable play area, on-screen setup instructions, and safely ending each session. Additionally, it offers guidelines on cleaning and storing the headset to ensure longevity, with a caution to keep the device out of direct sunlight to avoid lens damage.
A step-by-step guide on how to set up and use VR devices:
1. Unplug headset from charging cable and remove from cabinet or storage case.
2. Find a clear space of no less than 5' x 5'. VR works best standing. You can also use VR seated, but it may be more difficult to fully interact with simulations.
3. Power on headset.
4. Place headset on face and grab both hand controllers.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish set up: Pair controllers, adjust lens depth, adjust headstrap fit, adjust lens spacing,
create session passcode,
Create playspace,
Ending VR Sessions:
1. Select red exit button in the bottom right corner of the menu.
2. Select 'end session'.
3. Power off the headset.
Audio:
All VR devices use built-in speakers. Volume keys are located on the bottom of the headset.
You can also use wired and wireless headphones with Meta VR devices.
An AUX jack can be found on the side of the headset.
For Wireless/Bluetooth Headphones:
Using VR Controllers:
Thumbsticks: Use the thumb-sticks on your controllers to move around in VR. Pushing the tumbstick forward will move you forward, and pushing it backward will move you back.
Buttons: The primary buttons on the conrollers can be used to interact with objects and menus.
Teleportation: Use the thumb-stick to aim at a teleportation arc, then release the thumb-stick to teleport to the targeted location.
Interacting with Objects - Point and Click: Point at objects with the controller and press the trigger button to select or interact with them.
Interacting with Objects - Palm Trigger: Physically reach out and grab the object, like you would in the real world, by depressing the palm trigger.
Menu Navigation: Press the menu button on your controller to open the VR menu. Use the thumb-stick to navigate through the menu options. Select items by pointing and pressing the trigger button.
Rotating view: Rotate your view by pushing the thumb-stick left or right to turn your perspective.
Grabbing and holding: To grab objects, press and hold the grip button on the side of your controller.
Additional tips:
Comfort Settings: Customize your comfort settings in the VR menu to enhance your experience and reduce motion sickness.
Practice: Spend some time getting used to the controls and navigating in VR to become more comfortable.
Connecting to Wifi:
When using VR devices on campus, they should automatically connect to WiFi. If not, try following the steps below to connect to the network. You can use these same steps to connect to WiFi when at home or off campus.
Charging: VR headsets take between 2-3 hours to fully charge. Connnect headset to charging cable after each use.
Caution: Sunlight can cause irreversible damage to VR lenses. Never place a VR headset in direct sunlight.
