Ginny Garzón ('06) earned her degree in elementary education at Augustana and achieved her Master of Education at Jacksonville University. While she was a student at Augustana she enjoyed her study abroad experience so much she wanted to help others experience the same joy of traveling. She is now the Assistant Vice President of Consulting Services for CIS Abroad, an agency where students can connect with a semester of study or an internship opportunity abroad. She and her family live in Nebraska.
Garzón's debut children's book, Red, White, and Blue & Venezuelan Too! helps children learn about the process of immigration. Ginny Garzón uses an endearing rhyme scheme to explain immigration to children and address questions and concerns children have about the process. The book focuses on a young boy whose father is becoming a United States citizen. The boy is concerned about how this change will affect him and his family, and if they can still celebrate their Venezuelan culture. Red, White, and Blue & Venezuelan Too! is a sweet celebration of culture, family, and US citizenship.
