Films on Demand provides access to streaming videos across the Humanities & Social Sciences, Business & Economics, Health, and Science. Create playlists and links to specific segments of films to include in Moodle courses. For more information on linking, see the "Linking" tab of this guide.
Digital Theatre Plus This link opens in a new window
Digital Theatre Plus shares the best of British theatre with teachers and students all over the world. It captures the moments before the curtain rises and after the curtain falls, providing valuable insight into the play making process. The resource provides access to the hidden drama of the weeks, days, and hours before "lights up" on stage. By revealing the world of the rehearsal room, dressing room, backstage and beyond, our documentaries and interviews introduce theatre as a vibrant, exciting art form.

Augustana Media Server
Augustana now has its own media server.
To upload videos:
1. Click on the link above, or go to https://sho.augie.edu/admin and log in with your regular username and password.
2. Click “Add file”.
3. Type a name for your file in the “Description” box. (Leave the default settings as they are, including leaving the “Encode to MP4” box checked.)
4. Browse for your video file.
5. Click “Upload”.
Once you’ve uploaded your file, you’ll see a green URL associated with it. That’s the link to your video. You can copy and paste that link into Moodle or into a PowerPoint or Prezi.
(Note: There is a 1Gb file upload limit and a 5Gb user quota.)

Internet video sites

A number of openly accessible Internet sites provide access to streaming videos. Searching functions on these sites vary widely, and content can change or be removed without notice.

PBS video
Public Broadcasting Service provides access to full episodes of many of its programs including, American Masters, Frontline, NOVA, Masterpiece, and POV.
(Note: Not all episodes are available, and content changes over time)
Annenberg Learner
You can view Annenberg Learner programs online with a broadband connection whenever you see the VOD icon. Select a program, go to the individual program description listing and click on the icon.
Films for Action

Pay-per-view

Requiring students to pay for access to feature films for course study is an option that can be considered. Streaming access is widely available through a number of venues including Netflix, Vudu, ITunes, Amazon Instant Video, and other options. Read the terms of use carefully when choosing this option. Licenses are given on an individual basis and are usually not transferable.

New Day Digital
New Day Films offers streaming access to nearly 90 quality social issue films.
Individual use of a title for 90 days costs about $5.
New Day Digital’s Terms of Service prohibit showing the films in a classroom or to groups when the individual students or members have not acquired individual licenses and also prohibits sharing of individual On Demand login information.
Using New Day Digital requires setting up a customer account on the site including registering credit card information for making payments.
Amazon Instant Video
Provides access to a large number of titles, on a pay-per-view basis. Most of the titles offered are feature films or TV shows, but documentaries and other forms are also available. Rental prices differ per title, but generally fall in the $3-$4 range.
