Podcasts and web feeds

podcast: a digital audio file made available on the internet for downloading to a computer or portable media player, typically available as a series, new installments of which can be received by subscribers automatically.

Subscribe: There are many podcasts and news feeds (or web feeds) available on every conceivable topic.
Feeds include newly published content from websites such as blogs, news outlets (e.g. N.Y. Times), social networking websites and podcast sites.
This article from the TED staff might help you get started finding podcasts of interest to you. Other popular podcasts include: This American Life, Radiolab, and Teaching in Higher Ed. ITunes is a great source for podcast ideas and it serves as a podcast manager as well. Once you have identified a feed of interest to you and you want to receive regular feeds, subscribe to it and add it to your feed reader or podcast manager (podcatcher).

Create: When you are ready to create a podcast of your own, contact Media Services. We have equipment and facilities to help you get started.

Free with ads

For personal entertainment, there are many internet music services that offer some combination of free and premium (pay) service. Most will ask you to create an account to use the service. Most free services will include ads during the listening time and/or limit the number of songs you can skip.
