Eleanor Shanley served as the cataloger and technical services librarian at Augustana College from 1958 until her retirement in 1985. She passed away on January 15, 2005, at the age of 81. A graduate of South Dakota State University, Shanley earned her degree in library science from the University of Denver. Before returning to South Dakota, she worked at the State University of Science and Technology in Ames, Iowa. and Georgia State College in Atlanta. An active member of First Presbyterian Church in Sioux Falls, Eleanor volunteered as the church librarian for many years. She was also a member of the Augustana Library Associates, serving on the board for six years. In addition to her contributions to the library profession, Shanley was an accomplished  textile artist, and many of her needlepoint works are featured in the library
